At left, a view of Arthur Evans' reconstruction of part of the Knossos Palace. If Evans has the colors correctly, then the Minoans enjoyed a bright palace life.

It is here that the word 'Labyrinth' originated to designate the enormous sprawling palace, with its many rooms, hallways and levels -- the reality is not too far from the mythical description of the Minoan Palace in that respect.

At the right is a mosaic of porpoises over doorways in the palace. Similar designs from nature, especially from the sea, characterizes Minoan art, and also appear on Minoan ceramics.
